Money guidance built for people who don't get a payroll department

Nobody hands gig workers and freelancers a manual. When you're self-employed, there's no HR team sorting out your withholding, no benefits coordinator explaining your health insurance options, and no employer quietly setting aside money for taxes on your behalf. You're responsible for figuring all of it out yourself, usually by Googling questions late at night before a deadline.

TopMoneyGuide exists to close that gap.

We publish plain-English guides on the parts of money management that hit differently when you're self-employed: quarterly taxes, 1099 deductions, business banking, saving on irregular income, insurance, and the tools that actually make freelance life easier. No jargon, no assumption that you have an accountant on speed dial. Just clear, practical guidance you can act on the same day you read it.

Who we're for

We write for the roughly 59 million Americans who earn income outside a traditional W-2 job: rideshare and delivery drivers, freelance designers and writers, consultants, Etsy sellers, contractors, and anyone juggling 1099 income on the side or as their main hustle. If you've ever stared at a Schedule C and felt your stomach drop, you're exactly who we're writing for.

How we work

Every guide on this site starts with a real question we've seen self-employed workers ask, whether in forums, in our inbox, or in our own lives. Lucky Joseph founded TopMoneyGuide in 2026 after spending years navigating quarterly taxes and shifting 1099 income as a freelancer and realizing how little straightforward guidance actually existed. That same practical, been there approach shapes everything we publish today.

Our articles are researched and written by contributors with hands-on experience in freelance and gig work, and every piece goes through editorial review before it's published. We cite current IRS guidance and primary sources wherever possible, and we update our tax and deduction content each year as the rules change.

How we make money

TopMoneyGuide is free to read, and we plan to keep it that way. We're supported by advertising and by affiliate partnerships with some of the banking, accounting, and insurance providers we write about. If you click through and sign up, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That relationship never determines what we recommend. Our editorial team decides what to cover and what to say about it independently of any partnership. You can read more in our Editorial Policy and Affiliate Disclosure.
